you can get Pokemon that are not in the other version
The only difference is that there are different Pokemon in each version like Ruby/Saphire or Pearl and Diamond

There are various types of Pokemon. The Soul Silver version is in Japanese while there are other versions which are in different languages. This is the main difference.

Pokemon black has exclusive Pokemon and an exclusive location called black city where you can battle trainers with high leveled Pokemon and you can catch reshiram, while for white version it has more exclusive Pokemon, a exclusive area called white forest where you can catch lower leveled Pokemon of the trainer's Pokemon and you can catch zekrom.
No, you can't tell the difference between shiny type Pokemon and non shiny types. You just have to rely on hope, or a trainer who didn't use the Action Replay on there version of the game. I was browsing it and i saw a shiny shamen!
There is no difference between the two. 'awaiting' is just a version of 'waiting'.
Can u trade pokemon between gold version and leaf green
They are different generations of the game, the storylines are different as well as the characters, there are different pokemon almost completely. Platinum goes with diamond and pearl. White goes with black.
