Mamoru went to Harvard in the United States of America to study abroad. However, before he could get there, Galaxia attacked his plane mid-flight and removed his star seed, killing him. Whether the rest of the flight was affected isn't shown, and Usagi is not shown to have any awareness of what happened to Mamoru throughout the season.
In the manga's final arc, "Stars," something similar happens in that Galaxia removes Mamoru's Sailor Crystal, but before he boards the plane. Usagi witnesses the entire thing, and faints from shock. She doesn't quite believe what she has seen, even when it is revealed that the person sending her mysterious cards is not Mamoru, as she expected, but Seiya.

Is Mamoru a Sailor Senshi?
No. Mamoru is the Prince of Earth, Endymion, and the future King of Crystal Tokyo. While he does possess the Golden Crystal, counterpart to Usagi [Serena]'s Silver Crystal, and it is incredibly powerful, it does not make him a Sailor Senshi [Scout]. It is never stated whether it is the Golden Crystal or Mamoru's own past as Prince Endymion that enables him to transform into Tuxedo Mask, but in the manga, where it is revealed that Mamoru possesses a Sailor Crystal for Earth, the way the other Sailor Senshi do for their respective planets, it is assumed that it is because of this crystal (which appears to be embedded inside his Golden Crystal, inside his body), he can do magical things the way the Sailor Senshi can. For that reason, we never see a "Sailor Earth," because Mamoru is already the equivalent of a "Sailor Earth," without actually possessing that title. Series creator Naoko Takeuchi has expressed in interviews that only women can be true Sailor Senshi, but unless Mamoru is a cosmic exception, it is possible that men possess Sailor Crystals. Because the Sailor Crystals only exist in the manga, and not the anime, there is no real way of knowing if this same "rule" applies there.

Naoko Takeuchi finished drawing the manga, and there was no story for the anime to work with after the Stars season. It's unlikely that Sailor Moon Sailor Stars (5th season) will be dubbed into English, since it's been fifteen years, and rights to Sailor Moon are gone.
