The episode was 20, Makeshift, part 2 at around 1:25
According to How to Read (Death Note, volume 13), L ate a banana on October 28, 2004. This would correspond to some time towards the end of volume six or at the beginning of volume 7, definitely before chapter 58 (in which L dies). In the anime, this would be in or before episode 25, after episode 19.
I think it's episode 17 at around 13 minutes, 17 seconds. It continues in episode 18, which is really funny too.
Near was first seen on the last scene on Episode 26 of Deathnote who was inform that L was dead. This was also the first time that Mello was seen in the anime.
Um... he dies in both the books and the show, yes.
Yes.

From the other answer, it is true that L does die in chapter 58.The only reason I'm writing this is because I wanted to specify when in the chapter, but I'm not a member so I couldn't.Anyway, L does die in chapter 58, he dies between pages 5-13. L says "Justice will prevail" and smiles in episode 6.
The song is Semblance of Dualism from the second Death Note soundtrack, composed by Hirano Yoshihisa and Takeuchi Hideki.
The last half of episode 20

Mello comes into Death Note in Chapter 60, in Volume 7, after L's death. He and Near are the two possible successors to L, but Mello refuses to work with Near and decides to go after Kira on his own, kidnapping Sayu, Light's younger sister.
Light thinks of L as a obstacle and that L has to die. No love included
