DC's first comic book was New Fun Comics in 1935. Their first superhero comic was Action Comics #1, June 1938, featuring Superman.

Marvel Comics #1, published by Timely Comics, featured the Human Torch (not the one from the Fantastic Four) and the Sub-Mariner, and was dated October 1939. Timely Comics changed its name to Atlas Comics in the 1950s, then to Marvel Comics in 1961.
