Harry Potter tells one of his sons, Albus Severus Potter, who was worried about the possibility of being selected for House Slytherin, that he was named for two Hogwarts headmasters, that one of them was a Slytherin, and that he was one of the bravest men Harry had ever known.

Plus: he wanted to make his students (Harry, Neville, Hermione etc) suffer -- it was something like a revenge in his twisted mind, for his own having been bullied by the Marauders.
