No, he's not the first to die. If I remember correctly (and I'm not sure that I do), he is the fourth to die.

Technically, the first to die are the two sexed-up camp counselors in the opening scene. The first to die in the main part of the movie is the girl who was hitchhiking to the camp (I think her name is Annie). Kevin Bacon dies right after she does (I think).
