Queen Elizabeth II reigns as the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and many of the Commonwealth Countries. She does not rule over anyone.

Many people, including some in Britain, would say she is Queen of England, but that title has not existed since the year 1707.

She is also Queen of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, Barbados, The Bahamas, Grenada, Papua New Guinea, The Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, St. Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize and St Kitts and Nevis.

While she lives in England, and is primarily associated with Great Britain, she holds the title of Queen separately and equally in all sixteen countries.

Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne in 1953. By then, most of the British Empire had been de-colonialized, meaning that many countries historically under British Rule had already been returned to the native rule of the country.

In 1951, the 'winds of change' began to blow through British Empire, with the return of the Suez Canal to native rule. During the early years of Elizabeth II's reign, much of Africa was returned to native rule.

Today, the British Overseas Territories include Australia and Canada(Canada also comes from the french rulers, they were french ruled before the engish), and in total, there are 14 territories outside the British Isles that recognize the Queen as their sovereign ruler.
