Godzilla or Gojira 1st appeared in the 1954 Film by Ishiro Honda "Gojira".
Its general appearance is that of some kind of therapod dinosaur but this was never the intension. It was supposed to be a Sea Monster of no real genus.
Gojira is a mixure of 2 Japanese words. Gorira (Gorilla) and Kujira (Whale).
Godzilla is a fictional creaure in a movie and follows no known taxonomy. Popular ananlysis sees the creature as a symbol of American nuclear weapons in post war Japan. Writers of the mateial and the designers of the costume, models or CGI images may have thad a reason for his appearance and history. They may have thought that Godzilla is a gigantic mutant dinosaur that was transformed from the fallout of an atomic bomb test .
Yes and no. Godzilla would be considered a dinosaur as he is a big reptile but remember not all retiles are a dinosaur. So in conclusion Godzilla is not a Dinosaur.

Godzilla came from a dinosaur called Godzillosaurus. Somehow he survived and Evolved after exposed to extreme radiation. I think this was in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah I'm not sure. Zilla (American) alternatively was an egg from a lizard exposed to Nuclear radiation.
King Kong is an ape. Godzilla is a Dinosaur.
Godzilla is loosely based upon several dinosaurs ; the filmmakers settled on a dinosaur-like monster that was a cross of a Tyrannosaurus rex , an Iguanodon , a Stegosaurus and a fire-breathing dragon .

Since Godzilla is a fictitious creature we can't be certain of its biological status, but it certainly does resemble a huge lizard. Perhaps dinosaur would be closer.

No - one of them is a mystical creature that never existed, the other is a big dinosaur like creature from the movies
Well, Godzilla is just a made up movie monster so he isn't real. But there was a fossil that people found and it was called Godzillsauraus. It probably is some kind of dinosaur that lived way in the past before humans came on Earth. (My opinion.) All I know is that Godzilla isn't real, but it's fun to watch movies of it. That's all I have to say. :)
