The John Wayne Medal was authorized by the U.S. Congress on May 23, 1979. Only one solid gold medal was made and it was presented to the family of John Wayne in 1980. The medal sold to the public was produced in bronze. If you have one dated 1976 or made of gold it is not a U.S. Mint issued coin. The gold versions of the John Wayne Medal are bronze medals which have been plated by a private company and have whatever value you may place upon them. Bronze versions currently sell for $3 to $7. It's a privately-issued item and not an official government coin so its value would depend on how much it weighs and what the gold's fineness, or purity.

For example if the coin weighs 20 grams and is 990 fine, it would contain (20 * 0.99) = 19.8 gm of gold. Divide by 31.11 gm (the weight of one troy ounce, a special unit used to measure gold) and you find it has 0.636 troy oz. Finally, multiply by the current price of 1 troy ounce.

However, there were also a lot of John Wayne commemorative "coins" that were struck in a base metal such as copper or nickel and simply gold-plated, so it's important to know whether you have one of those instead of a bullion coin. You'd need to take the coin to a coin dealer or jeweler who might be able to perform a test that would tell you which kind you have.

IF it turns out to be a bullion coin and you wanted to sell it for its metal content, you'd get its wholesale price which is less. Alternately a collector of John Wayne memorabilia might be willing to pay somewhat more.

If you were borne in June 1976 how old are you?

To find out your age, you subtract 1976 (the year you were born) from the current year (eg 2017). 2017 - 1976 = 41 Thus in June 1976 you would be 41 (before your June birthday you would be 40).
