Between 400 and 500 regular characters and over 20,000 currently licensed character names (and counting). In addition to creating new characters, DC keeps purchasing characters from other companies and creators, so it's kind of hard to keep track of them all. Not to mention all the incarnations and different universes within the entire Multiverse.
The Incredible Hulk is a character from Marvel comics. The most recent Hulk film came out in 2008, five years after Marvel gained rights to the Hulk.
There are billions of Star Wars characters.
Both Marvel and DC have characters that everyone has heard of. For DC they are Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. For Marvel they are the X-Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and The Incredible Hulk. In the mainstream I would say Marvel wins out though. They have had more success over all in the area of blockbuster movies. This brings characters to kid's sneakers, billboards, popcorn buckets, etc. The increased marketing helps make certain characters more of a household name. Answer: Relatively speaking the most recognizable names from the USA are Nixon, Bush, and Superman. DC characters are infamously more recognizable, and relatively household names; however, Marvel generally sells more comics, and does better in overall marketing. I would label Marvel as the more popular comics company. I think personally DC is more popular then marvel except for in films but not tv. If you go on IMDB Arrow and Flash are both extremely popular shows. Not just that but the superman radio show and the Adam West Batman show were both popular. Super friends, justice league, batman the animated show. Batman and Superman are wayyyyyy more well known then Captain America and Iron Man. DC wins everyday.

The total number of DC characters is difficult to pinpoint precisely, as the DC Universe is vast and continually expanding. Estimates suggest there are over 10,000 characters, including heroes, villains, and supporting characters. This number encompasses well-known figures like Superman and Batman, as well as many lesser-known characters from comics, television, and movies. The dynamic nature of comic book storytelling means new characters are frequently introduced while others may be retired or reimagined.
The Shadow .
Batman and Catwoman.
It's difficult to provide an exact number of superheroes in the Marvel and DC universes, as both companies have created thousands of characters over the years. Marvel has over 8,000 characters, while DC has a similar number, with estimates ranging from 10,000 to 15,000 when considering all comic book characters, including villains and side characters. When combined, there could be around 20,000 to 25,000 unique characters across both universes. However, this number is constantly changing with new characters being introduced and older ones being retired or reimagined.
