Byakuya goes to the world of the living twice. Once with Rengi way in the begining to bring rukia back to the soul socity and again much later in the series with kenpachi ro bring a few soul reapers back to the soul socity.
In the anime Byakuya doesn't die however the manga is not complete so we don't know
