In "The Outlaw Josey Wales," Clint Eastwood's character frequently spits as a way to convey his rugged, tough persona and to emphasize his defiance and disdain for authority. This action also reflects the harsh realities of his environment and the emotional weight of his experiences. Spitting serves as a visual symbol of Wales' rebellion and his raw, unrefined character amidst the chaos of post-Civil War America.

It's one if not my second favorite Clint Eastwood western he even said if he made it later than it would have been as critically acclaimed as Unforgiven was and would have won as many if not more Oscars then Unforgiven did. My first favorite Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef film is, 1965's For A Few Dollars More , Sergio Leoni's 2nd spaghetti western of the man with no name trilogy. also Van Cleef's Death Rides a Horse is also just as good a spaghetti western.

No- he was an entirely fictional character played by Clint Eastwood in the famous 1976 Western, he never existed in real life. In any case, the character of Josey Wales was more of a 'lone gun hero'- he was essentially a good guy, whereas Jesse James and his like were villianous criminal thugs.
