Hunger Games - No, they are not. The Capitol made them to spy on the Tributes. Later on in the Games, they let the females die on their own. But before the males died, they mated with female mockingbirds to form mockingjays, having the ability to do bird songs and human voices, from a "child's high-pitched warble to a man's deep tones. And they could recreate songs."
When Katniss and Finnick go to the next "Hour" of the Clock in the 75th hunger games, the jabberjays are making a screaming sound that is the voice of Prim. Katniss runs towards it, but Finnick stops her. The Jabberjays are at that point making the sound of Prims screams and Finnicks sweetheart, Annie's, cries. They are assured by the others that the gamemakers are doing this to make them think they are dying. But really, the Jabberjays have been sent by the gamemakers.
jabberjays are bird created in capitol labs to spy on enemies and rebels of the capitol. They could memorize and repeat conversations, and were used to hear the rebel's plans and ideas. The jabberjays were later abandoned and left to die out in the wild when the rebels started feeding them with lies for the capitol. The jabberjays (who were all male) bred with female mockingbirds in the wild, creating mockingjays, which can repeat simple songs and melodies.
it symbolizes rebellion to katniss, because in the time of the dark days, the government creates a mutation - the jabberjays, and they were suppose to spy on enemies and rebellion's, the ability to memorize and repeat entire human conversations, and were used to gather words and information from the rebels. The districts found out, and they used the jabberjays to send false information to the capitol. The capitol then abandoned it, and left it to die off, but the male jabberjays mated with the female mockingbirds- causing the mockingjay.
The Jabberjay was created to spy on people during the war. It hear everything that they said/did. Then the Jabberjay would go somewhere and repeat everything
The mockingjay on the front of the book it shows a sign that you're protected, its a sign of safety and love, it explains it more in catching fire, but its showing a sign! The mockingjay is a cross breed between naturally occuring mockingbirds and an artificially created species called "jabberjays". Jabberjays were genetically engineered to be able to remember human conversations and repeat them back verbatim with human voices. They were used to spy on rebels who opposed Capitol (the authoritarian government of Panem). When the rebels figured this out, they fed lies to the jabberjays, and they were abandoned by the Capitol and left in the wilderness to die. Because the jabberjays were bred to be male, it was thought that they would die off in the wild, however, when released they bred with female mockingbirds and created the species "mockingjay". Capitol did not desire these birds to come out the way they did, therefore it is a symbol of rebellion, due to its undesirable effect. The protagonist Katniss becomes the embodiment of the mockingjay - a rebel that Capitol intended to control but who came out much different than planned.
No there are not. Only in The Hunger Games, because the capital created them.

The capitol generically made a bird called the Jabberjay which could mimic a whole conversation which they used to spy on the districts and the jabberjays would go back to the capitol and repeat what they heard the people of the districts were saying about them. The people of the districts found out and used the jabberjays against them telling them lies, the capitol then found out that they were being lied to so left the jabberjays to die out, but they bred with mockingbirds thus making the mockingjay

jabberjays mated with mocking birds and started own race of mockingjays. katniss has a mockingjay pins she wears with her during the games. audience saw it and associated it with katniss. it became her talisman.
No, The Hunger Games is fictional and the Mockingjay is a fictional animal created for the The Hunger Games story line.
It is the gift from her district given to her from Madge. Mockingjays were produced from Jabberjays and Mockingbords. The capitol never intended for them to exist. Since the pin is like her signature, she becomes the Mockingjay of the rebellion. Just the same....the capitol never intended for mockinjays to exist...Hope this helped (:
the government used to make birds called jabberjays that picked up peoples' conversations and sent them back to the capitol. they were used to find traitors and people conspiring against the government. people found out about these, though, and began to feed jabberjays useless or false information, so the government abandoned the project. they left the jabberjays where they were to die out, but instead they bred with mockingbirds, creating mockingjays. mockingjays can't mimic words, like jabberjays, but they can repeat a tune if they like it enough. katniss' dad had such a beautiful voice that the mockingjays would take up a song whenever he sang it. (that's why mockingjays remind her of her dad) THE mockingjay, however, in later books, is katniss. she has a pin she got in the first book with a mockingjay on it, a symbol of defiance, and she wore it continuously in the first book. people call her the mockingjay in later books, because of her pin.
