I had this happen to three of my games and i fixed one of them after recently discovering how to fix it without a repair kit. You need toothpaste, a toothbrush, car wax (containing carnauba wax, most car waxes do) and a soft, non abrasive cloth.

1. smear some toothpaste evenly around the disc with your finger

2. wet the toothbrush then scrub the disc from the inside to the outside, NOT around the disc in a circle because that's the pattern that the data is written on the disc. Use about the same pressure you would use when brushing your teeth.

3. rub the toothpaste with your finger in the same pattern as you did with the toothbrush, until the toothpaste starts to get sticky, then rinse the toothpaste off of the disc while continuing to rub the disc.

4. If the ring is still visible at this point, repeat steps 1-3, and if the scratches from the toothbrush are still visibly, then repeat step 3

5. Be sure the disc is dry, using a soft cloth to dry it

6. pour some car wax onto the soft cloth, then gently rub the wax on the disc in small circles until the wax turns to a haze

7. using a clean section of the cloth, wipe from the inside out until the disc has a nice shine on it.

8. make sure the disc is clean from the toothpaste and the wax, then you're ready to play again!
