Yes, but you'll need to buy or create a pet and have it in your household. Pets don't just walk around unless they are strays, then they will come to your house unless you have a sign to keep cats,dogs or horses away from your lot.
signs can be found in buy mode, they should be in the garden section.
(not quite sure where they are, but I know you can get them.)
