Your xbox controller may not be synced. To sync it:
There should be a small button on the controller in between the left and right triggers just to the side of the Microsoft logo, it has a symbol like this next to it (((.
And a corresponding button on the front of the Xbox 360 console.
Press them both and after a few seconds the two will connect.
