Responder #2: My daughter had the same problem. Just solved it by plugging here headphones back into the sound jack. It seems MM requires that a sound device (headphones or speakers) be plugged in to the sound jack. This is at least the case on my daughter's Vista system.
I've never heard of a program testing for the presence of an audio device before launching. It should at least inform the user of the error.
