The hand never gives a reason. But if you talk to Cawlin he'll give you a love letter, and you can give it to the hand in the toilet. Afterwards, you'll get 5 gratitude crystals from the ghost. The ghost will read the letter and fall in love with Cawlin, haunting him in Groose's room every night.
