Pixel Shader is a graphics processing program that runs on the GPU (graphics processing unit) in your video card. There are many versions of PS (Pixel Shader), and I believe at the time of writing the latest version out is 4.1. To get at least PS 3, you will need to get an ATI RADEON x1300-x1900 or a GeForce 6-7 series card, or above. Some of the Intel GMA integrated chipsets support it, but it's emulated and as such will run MUCH more slowly. For a quick chart to this information, please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel_shaders Search in Google shopping as a starting point in searching for a good deal on a video card, but most likely you can get a PS 3 video card for less that $100 US.

What is a pixel shader?

A pixel shader is a set of program codes which is usually built into a video graphics chipset and drivers. Its purpose is to enable more lifelike lighting effects on 3d models, usually for gaming. Pixel shader technology has been instrumental in recent advancements in 3d graphics technology. Many new games require a certain level of pixel shader technology. While it is possible to emulate this using software, it is much more stable, and results in much better performance if the system is upgraded with a new video card with built-in pixel shader technology. Pixel shader 1.1 2.0 3.0 and the like refer to different versions of pixel shader technology. They are backwards compatible, so if you have pixel shader 3.0 you can run anything requiring 1.1 or 2.0 as well. Answer: A pixel shader is a type of shader program, often executed on a graphics processing unit. It is typically used for scene lighting and related effects such as bump mapping and color toning, which provide crisper and more realistic graphics. Microsoft's Direct3D and Silicon Graphics' OpenGL support pixel shaders. In OpenGL, however, a pixel shader is called a fragment shader

Do certain graphics cards GeForce 6200 LE for instance come pre-loaded with Pixel Shader when purchased?

Pixel shader technology is hard coded into your video card and its drivers. Installing a new video card is pretty much the only way to install or upgrade your computers pixel shader capacity. The GeForce 6200 LE has support for pixel shader 3.0 and below.

Does an Radeon 9200 128MB graphics card support Pixel Shader 3.0?

The answer to your question is no. It can only hold a pixel shader 2.0. 3.0 Is too much for it. Hoping this is most helpful.

How much is a video card with shader 3.0?

I recently (Nov 2008) purchased a GeForce 7600 (which supports pixel shader 3.0) 512mb AGP card for $120. Note: you can get pixel shader 3.0 cards for less by going to a card which has less video ram or whatnot, this particular card happened to have the right cost/benefit balance for my needs.

Where do you get a pixel shader and how do you know what size you need?

Pixel shader is a technology included in many video cards which allows programs to render more realistic lighting in 3d visualizations. Many modern PC games require a certain amount of pixel-shader code within the video card. If you have such a game and it will not run due to a lack of a pixel shader, you will need to buy a new video card in order to play that game. In some circumstances, merely updating the drivers will suffice. However, it is much more likely that you will need a new video card. The number that follows pixel shading isn't a size, it is a version. Every version is backwards-compatible with all the previous versions, so the higher the better. Basically it breaks down like this. Pixel shader 1.1 = Supported by Geforce 3 and higher Pixel shader 1.3 = Geforce 4 and higher Pixel shader 1.4 = Radeon R200 & up Pixel shader 2.0 = Radeon R300 & up Pixel shader 2.0b = Radeon R420 and Geforce FX and up Pixel shader 3.0 = Radeon R520, Geforce 6 and 7 series Pixel shader 4.0 = Radeon R600, Geforce 8 and 9 series So if you had a geforce 7 series, you would be able to run any game which required pixel shader 1.1 thru 3.0 but not a game which required 4.0 Most of the modern games out there right now are requiring 3.0 at the most, it is not difficult to find a video card which has this for under $100.

Does GeForce GTX 460 support pixel shader 2.0 for Sims 3?

Yes, the GTX 460 has pixel shader 5.0, which will run Sims 3 (as well as pretty much every game on the market).

Can a game requiring Pixel Shader 1.1 be used on DirectX 9.0c?

DirectX doesnt have nearly as much to do with this as your video card. Pixel shader technology is hard-coded into your video card and its drivers. No matter what version of directX you are running, if your video card doesnt have pixel shader, your system will not be able to run any games requiring it.

Were do you get a pixel shader and how much?

Pixel Shaders are on video cards. If you have an old video card that doesn't have pixel shaders, then you have to buy a new video card. If you want something that can play newer games, then something like the nvidia 8 series or the ati hd series would be good. If the games are kinda old then you can settle for the older series of cards.

Pentium4 2.4ghz 1gb ram and graphics card 256mb with pixel shader model 3.0will gta4 run on your PC?

It will work But U will get only 6 to 7 fps and too much lag that Not playing Would be better u need a dual core processor to play it smooth :P

Does GTS 450 support shader model 3.0?

I know it supports Shader Model 5.0 so i am assuming that it can run 3.0 but personally i would just use 5.0 so much better.
