I have looked at other websites that have guides to this Harvest Moon and I play it myself and the websites say that a moonstone is on the 9th level of the Lake Mine (you can only get here in the winter!) use your hoe tool to look in the ground.
TIPS: Pack purple grass or another grass or medicine to keep you from turning blue. Save outside of the mine then enter and find the steps. If it takes a long time, shut off the game and try again. Save before going down the next set of steps on each level, try to save your stamina for later. Because, if you want to get technical, you actually go thru 10 levels (ground, 1, 2, 3, 4....) it is more than it seems!
I just had to do this and I took my basket down with me. Sometimes the rocks would be too close to me on the next level around the stairs and I would have to shut my game off several times to be able to use my tools.

Well, they are very hard to find now, but it's Gameboy Player. You hook it up to the bottom of your GameCube, (I don't remember how, so hopefully you would get a manual). Then you stick the game Harvest Moon More Friends of Mineral Town in the slot, which is clearly for Gameboy games, and put Harvest Moon Another Wonderful Life in the GameCube spot. Then, when you start your game, go to the mountain place on the game where the Sprite stops you. Instead, you will be able to connect.
