According to the original manga, Goku was the first super saiyan. However If you are counting non-canon (Not original) Then Bardock was the first. But for general use Goku is widely regarded as the first. There was a manga and now an episode about Bardock after planet vegeta is destroyed.

Based on the manga "The Original Supersaiyan", Goku was the first to transform. There was however an implication in the film "The Legendary Super Saiyan" that Broly was the first and the same with Bardock from Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock.
