The show has been hosted by Pat Sajak and Vanna White for 26 seasons and over 5000 episodes since the nighttime Wheel of Fortune began on September 19 1983. The show begins the 27th season on September 14 2009 and they will continue to host the show. They have both stated publicly that they have no plans to leave the show.Alex Trebek was a host for one day on 1 Apr 1997. On January 6 1975 Chuck Woolery became the first Host of daytime Wheel of Fortune and continued until his last show on December 25 1981 when he left after salary disputes. Pat Sajak took Chuck Woolery's place as host of the daytime Wheel of Fortune and on September 19 1983 he became the first and only host of the nighttime version of Wheel of Fortune. Pat Sajak left the Daytime version of Wheel of Fortune on January 9 1989 to do a CBS version of the Tonight show. Rolf Bewirschke replaced Pat Sajak for about 6 months until he was replaced by Bob Goen who stayed as the host of the daytime version of Wheel of Fortune until it's cancellation on August 30 1991.

Both were on the network daytime Wheel of Fortune for many years doing both the daytime and nighttime versions of the show. Chuck Woolery and Susan Stafford were the original host and hostess to the January 1975 premier episode. When Susan Stafford left the program there were some temporary hostesses before Vanna White became the second permanent hostess and Vanna continued as hostess until the final cancellation of the network program. Pat Sajak left a couple year's before the show's cancellation after being Chuck Woolery's replacement for a number of years (1981-1989)
Woolery joined right after High School and did 2 years in the Navy. Though his bio doesn't specify the years, since he was born in 1941 and he started working in 1963, it's a good bet he was in during 1959 to 1961 or 1960-62.
