edit: nomadic is one way of non-sedentary living. Another way is being a hunter-gatherer. Nomads are farmers who moved their animals onto poorer land. On this land they have to travel to find enough food for their animals. Nomads did not exist before the invention of the wheel and axle (invented approx. 3500 BC in Central Asia) Before this time the steppes of Central Asia were not accessible to humans, nobody lived there or wondered into them.

In my opinion the opposite of sedentary is non-sedentary.
