No they do make the rules so they can break them, but you only get to be on Wheel of Fortune once. It is considered a game that includes fortune and luck and because spinning the wheel can end a turn it is not possible to have championship matches like on Jeopardy. It is not as important to have solved the puzzle first you have to solve it when it is your turn
Doing well in Wheel of Fortune is more than to be able to solve the puzzle you must also be lucky in the choosing of the letters, buying of vowels, and spinning of the wheel. Of course all of these things also involve skill, but skill is just not enough. Contestants who have solved most of the puzzles very quickly have seen themselves lose out to an individual who got lucky on the last round and ended up in the bonus round. Even when it is your turn and you know the answer to the puzzle you still have to decide whether to spin and take your chances or solve the puzzle for what you will get then. It's a game of both skill and luck and that helps to keep the viewers interest over all these years.

You must be thinking of a different show. Wheel of fortune does not have an assortment of games. They have a guess the puzzle by filling in the missing letters when it's your turn game. They spin a wheel and are awarded the money on the wheel each time there letter chosen is in the puzzle. They can also buy a Vowel for $250 if they have the money from choosing consonants. There turn continues until they solve the puzzle, or the chosen letter is not in the puzzle, or the wheel ends up on a bankrupt or lose a turn. They so have 3 rounds where the contestants ring in as letters are appearing and try to solve the puzzle when they think they know the answer. They also have a bonus round where the contestant is given the letters E, S, T, R, N, & L and chooses 3 more consonants and a vowel and has 10 seconds to solve the puzzle.
That would be the pilot and to solve the bonus puzzle the winner would call out letters until he discovered the prize that he had chosen before the show. Episodes of the first daytime show no longer exist Most of the early daytime wheel of fortune episoles have been erased.
