Growlithe evolves into Arcanine using a Fire Stone.

Growlithe is #58 in the National Pokedex, and was introduced in the Generation I Pokemon titles (Red, Blue, and Yellow) where it could be found (Red Only) on Routes 7 and 8, and in the Pokemon Mansion, and (Yellow Only) at the Pokemon Mansion. In Generation VI (X and Y), it is only obtainable by encounter through a Friend Safari.

Here are the locations for a fire stone in some of the games:

Gold/Silver/Crystal: Bills Grandfather (He Lives in Bill's Cottage North Of Cerulean Town). He will give you a Fire Stone. Also in soulsilver version only, you can go to the pokeathlon dome (next to the national park) and trade athlete points (which you get from playing the pokeathlon) for a water stone, and after that a fire stone, but you can only do this if you have beaten goldenrod city's gym leader, whitney.

Leaf Green/Fire Red: Route 124: Exchange Red Shard For Fire Stone, or Fiery Path after Getting Strength, or you can buy it from the major store in Celadon City Go to the I believe 2nd floor

Ruby/Sapphire: Fiery Path Route 124.

Emerald: Fiery Path Route 124.

Diamond/Pearl: Fuego Iron Works The Under Ground.
