The use of the Y Button on a Nintendo DS system varies with the game. Some games will not use the button at all, and any GBA (Game Boy Advance) games played on a DS will never use the Y Button as the original GBA system did not have one.

Pokemon X and Y versions are being developed for the Nintendo 3DS. They will not be playable on a Nintendo DS however they can be played on a Nintendo 2DS but they will not have the 3D features that the Nintendo 3DS systems will include.
