I sent an email to Canon asking the same question and the answer was 8GB x class 4. I tried it and it didn't work, I can tell you from my own experience that the biggest it takes is 2GB class 4. If you put a bigger capacity card in it comes up with a message in red that says 'card error' I haven't tried a faster card eg. class 6 etc but I'm told that it wont make any difference in that camera.
