[you cant becase it has not been approved by Nintendo so it is illegal] Cheating in a video game is not illegal. It could void your warranty, but how often do you hear of a video game warranty anyways? The system maybe, but that warranty won't be affected by you cheating in Pokemon.

Cloning in Pokemon Diamond is difficult. you have to put up your Pokemon in the GTS, and time shutting off your power so that you corrupt one of the two saves kept on the DS (it keeps a backup). In some cases, this will erase your game entirely, be cautious (http://faqs.ign.com/articles/786/786927p1.HTML)

My advice is instead to use pokesav (A save game editor), and a Pro Action Replay Media Edition (Which can backup your save to the computer), or if you're ON your computer, just Pokesav.(http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-use-Pokesav-for-Pokemon-Diamond-and-Pearl-/). If you're doing it this way, you may need to convert your saves to put them back on the DS from your PC. This is a converter for save game files (http://www.shunyweb.info/convert.php). The one for the Pro Action Replay is .duc, the one for pokesav is Acecard rpg/raw format.
