sonic weapons work by intake air and pressure causing a sonic boom
A sonic boom is a collapsing pressure wave, and may be measured in pounds per square inch of pressure.
An aircraft traveling at super sonic speeds will crease pressure waves or shocks that send off huge explosions.
Critical pressure in a nozzle is the pressure at which the flow of material through the nozzle reaches its maximum. Beyond which any increase in pressure will not result in an increase in flow. The point at which the velocity of a fluid in the throat of the nozzle reaches the local speed of sound, creating a sonic wave, or a sonic choke.
A sonic boom creates a pressure wave as an object travels faster than the speed of sound, which can cause changes in temperature, pressure, and humidity in the air. These changes can lead to the condensation of water vapor into visible clouds along the wavefront of the sonic boom.
An anemometer is a device that provides information on wind speed and wind pressure. Sonic anemometers measure the wind speed and pressure of sonic pulses that exist between pairs of transducers.
That's a sonic boom. Sound waves are never supersonic in themselves, objects can be supersonic ... which causes a pressure wave (which moves at "sonic" speeds) and which can be heard (firing a gun will do it).
The sonic boom was first discovered by John William Strutt, also known as Lord Rayleigh, a British scientist, in the late 19th century. He studied the phenomenon of sound waves traveling at or faster than the speed of sound and their effects on air pressure, leading to the understanding of the sonic boom.
