I would get a Ground Type pokemon because it is good against more pokemon.
But on the other hand a rock type pokemon is extremly sturdy. I have a Golem and whenever it is hit was an attach (other the Fighting, ground and steel type attachs) Its HP only goes down by a few. Unfortunatley as I have said a rock type pokemon is weak against a ground type sooo... Its really your choice
I went through my whole game with 2 pokemon that were extremly powerful and won against every type of pokemon (even the ones it was weak/bad against). If you power up your pokemon to be really strong you can do anything.
