A dispenser drops items when you apply a redstone current to it. It can also do the following:*Fire arrows
*Pour lava or water from a bucket
*Apply bone meal to crops
*Set things on fire with Flint and Steel
If you want the dispenser to drop arrows, a lava bucket, a water bucket, bone meal, or flint and steel, you will need to craft a dropper.
I've only gotten this to work once. But u put a stack of two or more (it can be any block/item) in a dispenser and power it with a lever or a button. Ex: if I put five string in a dispenser and power it I get 5 string when I power it but when you look in the dispenser, only one is gone. Hope I explained this well!
Rig a dispenser so that it works. make sure to put a pressure plate or lever for use. Put a lot of arrows in the dispenser, then use the lever or pressure plate and arrows will fire out.

it doesn't work with buttons. you can put a pressure plate, redstone torch, or a lever right next to the dispenser
Start by making a furnace, then place a bow in the center and replace the cobblestone below that with redstoneOne of the more amusing toys included in the Minecraft 1.2 Beta update was the Dispenser. Created with seven cobblestone, one bow and one piece of redstone, the dispenser has the ability to store all manner of useful objects and hurl them out of itself at high speed. It is particularly useful in a defensive function if it is stocked with arrows. When the dispenser is clicked on, you will see that it has up to nine slots which can store items to be fired or 'dispensed'. This provides quite a bit of capacity. How To Power A Minecraft DispenserBut all this space is fairly useless if you don't know how to hook up a dispenser. In order to fire your Minecraft dispenser, you will need to make a trail of redstone dust to it and use a switch or pressure plate or similar device to activate dispenser. When the redstone glows, the dispenser will fire one arrow (or block, or flower, whatever you put in it) you can fire rapidly by toggling a switch back and forth. How To Make A Dispenser Mob TrapAs with pretty much anything made using redstone, the dispenser has a definite potential for traps. Because you can use stone pressure plates to power the dispenser, it is a very simple matter to line the plate up with the front of the dispenser, thus creating an 'Indiana Jones' style trap. This is an incredibly simple trap to make and I can't tell you how funny it is to be going about your business elsewhere on your Minecraft property and hearing the dispenser being set off by half-witted mobs who apparently don't mind being riddled with arrows. The noise that the trap makes is also a potential warning system, letting you know that something (or someone, if this is implemented in SMP) is getting a little too close for comfort. Here is how to make one:C C C Key:C B C C: cobblestone (harvested by breaking a stone block with a pick axe)C R C B: bow (crafted using sticks and string)R: redstone (harvested by breaking a redstone block with an iron pick axe)- Source: Minecraftworld.
if you use a pickaxe, it will pop out
If you put TNT in a dispenser then activate the dispenser with a redstone current, the TNT will be dispensed already primed and will explode shortly afterwards. This is useful for making automatically reloading cannons and some traps.
Get a creeper egg from the Creative Mode inventory and put it in a dispenser. Then apply redstone current to the dispenser. If you are not in Creative Mode then you will have to wait for a creeper to spawn in the dark.

It dispenses an item when activated with a charge. So for example, you could place arrows in it, and have a pressure plate touching it. When the pressure plate is pressed, the dispenser will fire an arrow. It will do the same for other projectiles, like snowballs. If the item inside is not a projectile, the dispenser will just spit it out a short distance.
A chest would probably be closest to it. To make it put wood planks all around the edges of a crafting table.
