Mario has had many different appearances over the years. His outfit often changes to suit the game. Everything from dressing like a doctor with a white overcoat in Dr. Mario, to wearing a bee costume in Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Wii.
However, his basic appearance has consistently been portrayed as a short, Italian plumber with brown hair, black moustache, and an abnormally large and bulbous nose.
His most common ensemble was adopted in the 1988 release of Super Mario Bros 3 in Japan for the Nintendo Entertainment System. That consisting of a red shirt with denim overalls, brown shoes, white gloves, and red hat with an "M" on it.
