IP (Internet Protocol) is like the number of your network. Every single network has an own IP, and this is used to for instance be able to find out where you live and who you are if you're doing something illegal online. To find out what your IP address is, go to the link under "Sources and related links" below this answer. In Minecraft it's used as a server name. You have to type in the host's IP to connect to his online server.
Yes, you can! Once you're on the website, login to your Minecraft/Mojang account, and on the main page, if you look to the right, you'll see 2 links under the words "Play Minecraft". Click the one that says "In browser" and you're ready! If you're interested, you can also play Minecraft Classic (one of the earliest versions of Minecraft on PC) on the website. Under the links for downloading Minecraft and playing it on the site, there's a link that says "Looking for Minecraft Classic?" Click this, and you can either play Minecraft Classic Singleplayer or Multiplayer. Believe it or not, there are still lots of people who play Classic Multiplayer. So if you're bored of the real game, you can check out the Classic version.

First you nab the software at : www.http//:minecraft.net, Its under downloads. Now once that's done, you should have a file named "Minecraft server" With that, run it. It'll add a bunch of files like Server, Banned-Ip's, Etc. Now get on it by going to multiplayer, type in LocalHost and press join. Now go to the Minecraft server file you created, it should say "(YourName) Has joined the game." Now, To op yourself (make you an admin) You type "op (Name)" and you have spawning commands etc. Port uploading is how to make it online for other players. I don't know how to do that yet.
