Each gym's trainers and leaders utilize one type of pokemon or occasionally a mixture of two types and exploiting each's weaknesses makes it easier for you to win the battle against them.
Below is a list of the types used in gym order:
1: Rock and Ground
2: Water (leader has Water and Psychic)
3: Electric
4: Grass and Poison
5: Poison
6: Psychic
7: Fire
8: Mostly Ground occasional other types with trainers
Below here is the types you should use for each gym:
1: Water or Grass
2: Electric
3: Ground
4: Fire, Ice, Flying, or Psychic
5: Psychic or Ground (CAUTION ground moves will miss on pokemon like Weezing due to Levitate)
6: Ghost, Bug, or Dark (you may not be able to capture a Dark pokemon but you can use Dark type moves)
7: Ground, Rock, Water
8: Water
Using the types listed above will give you the advantage and most surely allow you to win however don't neglect the fact that your pokemon need to be the correct level for each gym so make sure to take on proper trainer before going in there.
Level range of there pokemon goes as follows:
1: 9-12
2: 13-20
3: 21-25
4: 26-30
5: 31-36
6: 37-42
7: 43-47
8: 48-52
Make sure to above the last level or somewhere close to ensure victory.
