He helps you out in the first half of the game but later becomes mad with power and tries to kill you, so overall I would say bad.

But in the ending scene when Wheatley is seen in space he says that he would take it all back if he could and that made me think that maybe there is some kind of a faulty program in the system that makes all the cores connected to it mad. So I don't think that Wheatley is bad but the network he was connected to. Proof to this is that even GLaDOS was somewhat nicer when she was a unplugged from the system.

How do you beat Wheatley in Portal 2?
To beat Wheatley, you must first go behind the conversion gel pipe when he starts throwing bombs, and bust the pipe. After that, it will be all over the room. What you need to do now is: First, put a portal on one of the panels near the top of the room, doesn't really matter where. Now, let him start throwing bombs, move out of the way, and put the other portal where the bombs are landing. They should hit Wheatley, and GLaDOS will deliver a corrupted core, so go get that, use the newfound repulsion gel to attach it to Wheatley. He will move his shields. Now, do the same thing, but instead of putting a portal on a panel, put it directly under Wheatley. The bombs should hit him again. Another core comes in the same place, so go grab it, but it's a bit trickier this time. After attaching it to him, do the same thing once more, but make sure the panel you put your portal on is behind Wheatley so the bombs will hit him and not the shields. Put the last portal where the bombs are falling. He will be stunned again. This time, instead of the core coming up the catwalk, look to the left of the broken conversion gel pipe and wait a moment for the last core to come out. Under the propulsion gel pipe to the left of the broken conv. gel pipe, there should be a panel with conversion gel on it. Put a portal on that, then one on the ground next to it. Use the gel to fly out the portal, grab the final core, and attach it to Wheatley. After a short cutscene, go over and put a portal above the stalemate resolution button and a portal under Wheatley. Jump through the portal, press the button, and watch the best ending to the best game ever! Congratulations, you beat Portal 2!

This answer contains spoilers so if you don't want to know don't read it. The game begins as a follow up from Portal 1, when Chell the main character wakes up in the labs of Aperture Science. A new addition to the cast of Portal becomes your guide as you try to escape the laboratories. You and Wheatley, your guide, stumble into GlaDOS after some time and she forces you to test as she did in the first game. Her unending tests are interrupted by Wheatley as he once again tries to free you from the labs. After you help Wheatley create defective turrets and empty the neurotoxin from GladOs' storage, you confront GlaDOS. After a short fight, Wheatley overrides GlaDOs' system and takes control of the Aperture Science laboratory. You are about to escape forever when Wheatley becomes corrupt with power and sends GlaDOS' mind into the body of a common potato, and sends you down an elevator shaft. This is where the plot twists and after uniting with GlaDOS, you must work together to escape the basement of Aperture Science. After getting out of the dark places of the facility, you are forced to test with Wheatley, but he soon becomes bored with you and decides to kill you. After running from Wheatley like a scared little puppy, he traps you in a situation not unlike the one GlaDOS put you in in the first game. This is where you have to put all your skill with a portal gun at work as you corrupt Wheatley. After performing the required tasks, A cutscene begins where Wheatley blasts a hole in the ceiling, revealing the moon. You shoot the floor with the portal gun, and then shoot the moon. This is where Wheatley is vacuumed into space and GlaDOS saves you from a similar fate. After you are fully healed, GlaDOS states that you had beaten her fair and square and demands that you leave. This long elevator trip towards the surface (Aperture Science is located underground) is filled with Turrets, and begins the famous "turret opera". Chell finally is able to leave Aperture Science forever, and GlaDOS performs one last song before saying goodbye. After the credits, a small scene shows Wheatley apologizing to you while floating around in space. This is the total storyline for Portal 2.
