Not really a cheat, but it's something fun:
Right after the "10 Tons" or whatever appears, immediately drag the blank spot where the last correct answer was shown. It will give you another piece of junk. Repeat this quickly, and you can get four or five additional items on your pile after the end. However, you don't seem to get any coins or game points for doing this.
Some general strategy tips:
1. Create a wide base at the start. For the first few items, balance them over the edge on the side, then add weight on the side with the ground under it. Now you have additional space to put things without having to make a tall pile.
2. Always try to place an item on top of two or more existing items of the same height. Rather than having several independent towers, this creates a large locked-together structure. Use small items to make equal-sized piles.
3. Use toasters to create a "stop" for a wheel on a tilted surface. The car with a toaster on the hood is a particularly effective spot for a wheel.
4. Discard difficult items that are not worth very many points. The "green gate" and the bathtub are almost never worth it.

If you are a premium user, click on the "Classic Edition" link on the home page. This will give you a list of other versions; beach, junk food, etc. Another unauthorized way is to begin playing junk pile, and then change the URL in the browser. In the place where it says "variant=default", change "default" to "beach". Then you can bookmark the modified URL and always play it.
