Sheik is disguized Zelda !!!
Sheik is the alter ego of Princess Zelda, a major character in the The Legend of Zelda series. Despite Sheik's male appearance, Sheik is indeed a female in Super Smash Bros. Series (though in The Legend of Zelda series, Sheik's gender is not official). Sheik acted as Zelda's stronger form, which she would often use to help others, and even Link .
(Didn't want to mess with this answer, so I'll add on.)
Sheik is clearly male. Some less reliable reasons are:
-Flat chest, full-grown adult. Most likely male.
-Deeper voice.
-Shortened hair.
-Masculine eyes. In Japanese anime/manga, it IS hard to tell, but in the posters and such, its more clear.
A better reasons is in Brawl, on the trophies and after transformation, you may notice a bulge in the groin area. Also, since magic is used to change between Sheik/Zelda, we might as well say its a gender change or Zelda is freaking lazy. Doubt the latter.
I'm done.
