Special. Another move called Giga Impact is similar to Hyper Beam, but it's a physical move instead. Same damage and side-effect.
Most moves in Pokémon have variations. A Hyper beam like move is one with a power of 150 which requires two turns to perform, damage being dealt on the first turn. Hyper beam has both special and physical variations as well as a variety of types. These moves are Hyper beam (normal special), Giga-Impact (normal physical), Frenzy Plant (grass special), Blast Burn (fire special), Hydro Cannon (water special), Rock Wrecker (rock physical) and Roar of Time (dragon special)
its a physical because normal falls in the physical category because if you look up terms in the help guide in the game and go to attack and it will say all normal attacks are physical along with a couple other types
There are nine Pokémon moves that have "beam" somewhere in their name and those moves are SolarBeam which is a Grass-type attack, Ice Beam which is an ice-type attack, Signal Beam which is a Bug-type attack, Aurora Beam which is an ice-type attack, Psybeam which is a Psychic-type attack, Bubble Beam which is a water-type attack, Simple Beam which is a Normal-type move, Hyper Beam which is a Normal-type attack and Charge Beam which is an electric-type attack.
He never does. Luxray is a physical attacker, why on earth would you want Hyper Beam on it ??

No all normal type moves just like hyper beam are physical attacks.

There is no major difference. But hyper beam works better is your pokemon has better special attack and giga impact works better for those with higher attack.
It is the exactly the same as Hyper Beam, only it is a physical attack. - Pokemon Guru
Ice Beam is a Special attack so it's power is based on your pokemon's Special Attack stat.
