Ghost gets shot Point Blanc by a .44 Magnum round. Even if he was wearing Kevlar(bulletproof vest, and Kevlar CAN STOP a 44 mag round up to 20m) he wouldnt survive. BUT even if he did, he was then burned to death and left to die. There is a SLIGHT chance of Ghost being alive, because in COD4 MW, it looked as if Cpt.Price was dead but later in the MW2 campaign he ended up to be alive. So, there is a small chance that Ghost could come back in the MW3 campaign... but its highly unliquely.

More than likely, it was Gaz. He was basically shot in the face at the end of MW2, which would explain why he wears that mask. Also, they have to same voice actor. Yes this is very likely. In mw2 Ghost died however infinity ward stated that he sort of wasn't. Perhaps he will come in as a younger person, or the same voice actor will do another character.

(opposite from the heart) Two, only roach gets covered in gasoline and the fire that you see far away on the screen was actually the fireproof suit of ghost or the leg of roach. at the begining of mw2, ghost says... why do we have to wear this fireproof suit? Again opinions may wary.

I heard from a friend that Ghost is Gaz from mw1 or also known as 'Lt. Simon Riley' and in mw2 he and Cpt. Price know each other although you can't see Ghost's face because of the gasmask and Ghost is also known in mw2 as Lt. Simon 'Ghost' Riley and now his callsign is ghost because he apparently "died" at the end of mw1.

Ghost was not killed but Roach "your player" was killed. ghost was not killed as he was shot in his rib and the bullet came out from the other side, in the beginning of the mission 'loose ends' he said'why do we have to wear fire prove west," and the gasoline was only spilled on Roach not on ghost. The other clue that ghost is not dead is that 2 snipers were guarding Roach and Ghost,when Shepperd left they would come down and check and would find ghost half-alive. They could have called the rescue team.
