I would say yes if you are watching while their playing. Call of Duty 4 is where the language and game content starts to become a little bit to mature for younger players. If the player constantly wants to play the game, you are in complete control and you probably should cut down their playing hours. Campaign mode in COD 4 and beyond start to become inappropriate. If it`s just LIVE play their interested in, any COD would be okay. I strongly recommend COD 2, 3, and COD World at War. These COD's are most appropriate until they get older.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY OFFENSIVE CONTENT IN THE GAME, I AM JUST GIVING A SUGGESTION AND WILL NOT BE BLAMED.

5 years play it
Call of Duty Black ops is officially rated M for mature. It is not designed to be a game for children. However, many user reviews seem to place the age rating as appropriate for most 12- to 13-year-olds.
Largely, it depends on the standing of the parents on whether or not their 9 year old should play Call of Duty or not. It should also be noted that the modern Call of Duty series is rated "M" for Mature 17+. This rating is not posted on the original Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty: United Offensive, or Call of Duty 3 - in which are rated "T" for Teens.
All Playstation Consoles are appropriate for even younger children. It is the games that have age limitations
I'd say Call of Duty 3 because there is no online mode so he won't be harassed by other players. Also the language won't be as offensive in the regular game as it would be online with other people talking to him.
