Technically, private servers are illegal for World of Warcraft. Nevertheless, many people still play on private servers.
No, you can not play World of Warcraft without a subscription unless you play on illegal private servers that are not supported by blizzard. These servers can be much more buggy and you will be kicked off the server many times because the server itself crashes many times and generally by an all around mess. EDIT: you can now play World of Warcraft for free until level 20.
All private servers are "legal" in that they are not breaking any laws. However, Blizzard considers private servers a violation of the Terms of Service of World of Warcraft in general, and therefore, any private servers are actually in violation of Blizzard Entertainment's Terms of Acceptable Use for their software. In other words, private servers are like pirated software, and you should always be careful to be sure your username and password on a Private server NEVER matches any other username/password combination you have elsewhere online.
No, you do not have to pay to go on World of Warcraft private servers. But if you want to Donate money to your private server developers you can and in most private servers donating gives you the best gear you can get. I recomend going on WoWlegacy private server or WoWBeez private server, they are both very good private servers for PvE and PvP.
This is not possible, as access to the Blizzard servers only is possible with a valid subscription. This needs to be a paid and active subscription connected to a battle.net account. Without this, you cannot play World of Warcraft on official servers.
WoW private servers crash often, do not generally have friendly GMs (usually server owners friends), really bad economy, and can be full of bugs and what not. it is better to just pay the fifteen dollars a month and play on the official servers.
There are no GM power hacks on retail (legal) servers. There might be on private servers, but private servers are illegal. We can not help you with that here.
No, only on private servers
of cource they are...well 99% of them
Private servers are... well... private. It depends on what the administrator of the server allows.
Unfortunately, yes there are people who run private servers for world of warcraft. Keep in mind that these servers could be several patches behind the live official servers, and the Game-Masters of these servers follow no rules unlike the official servers. The economy of the private servers is nearly non-existent because of the amount of people on them compared to the official servers.
Private servers are known to be buggy as heck. It is better to just play on the live official servers.
This is the problem with private World of Warcraft servers. They are full of bugs. You should go play on the live official servers. Much better.
that is illegal srry but it is
This is what I'm currently downloading. http://www.antwow.com/ Games in this include, World of Warcraft1.2GB) World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade(4.6GB) World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Linch King (15GB)
Because of the new expansion, World of Warcraft: Wrath of The Lich King, no private servers of any merit are able to emulate the game properly... it will be months before any private server will be able to create a bug free emu.

Priivate servers are ilegal, i would suggest keeping away from them.
