Yes he is real because in the final cutscene of Black ops it shows Mason in the crowd. I thought Mason was still fake but when I saw the real scene when John F. Kennedy goes in the motorcade ride I paused it and saw Mason. Treyarch even admitted that Mason is real and helped(not killed) kill JFK. The brainwashing and the numbers were fake he was just an accomplice that was working for Lee Harvey Oswald.

***EDIT***

This guy is totally wrong. The man in the footage of JFK in Dallas is just one of the secret service agents. He was not working for Harvey Lee Oswald (Not Lee Harvey Oswald). The whole story of Black Ops is made up. A white guy in sunglasses and a suit could be anyone. They made Mason look like that agent on purpose so they could work that little footage reel thing in the end in. Treyarch never admitted to any of those things. Also, Oswald killed the JFK, not Mason, like the game said.
