He said Jak would know him when he saw a certain amulet. Jak realized it was the same amulet the little boy (himself) was wearing. Therefore, he is Mar. He was the one who built Haven City and accomplished many great things. The means of which are not explained fully, but when the dummy precursor says "Jak, you will have more adventures in the future, or was it the past?" implies that he will have adventures later in his life, that will occur in the past. Suggesting that Jak will find means of Time Travel and go back in time to create Haven City.
