It's either the creator of the custom content's fault (for not making it nicely), or just a glitch in the files of the sims 2. The following link is something I tried. Wouldn't hurt for you to try it to.

You can't "get" mod the sims 2, it is a web sit with a lot of custom content and hacks for The Sims 2
I personally like modthesims.info best :)
This is caused by custom content, mods or Time Machine in most cases. Deactivate Time Machine while playing, and try to remove your custom content...
You can find custom content on various third-party websites, or by downloading pre-made Sims with custom content from the Sims 3 Exchange.
You may get custom content from the official Sims 3 Exchange. However, if you would like more variety of content, there are always third-party sites such as The Sims Resource and SimsVIP. You may find the links to these sites below.

If you know how to make custom content then you can. Mod the Sims has a "how to" tutorial on custom content.

Custom content.
You can have one, but custom content is required.
it means what you downloaded wasn't packaged right, or has other problems and is causing your game to crash, the only solution is to delete the custom content that is causing the crash.
You can download custom content a lot of places online, such as Mod the Sims. Just create a log-in, go to the "downloads" tab, pick The Sims 2, and start hunting.
By having TSR workshop for custom content or if you want to get custom content go to Modthesims3.com or TheSimsresource.com
