It depends on what expansion packs you have... I'll just put professions out of the situation. In the base game of sims 3 a well paying job is the science career and the harder one is the military career because it leaves your sims stressed and exhausted. Also to earn more money make sure you check out the career tab and the skill tab next to the inventory tab. This will help you keep track of what you need to do to earn a promotion.
