I know Walmart and some of the larger "Box stores" sell minecraft now but I'm assuming it's a CD. It should be around the same price as buying it straight from Mojang. Although the stores probalby have sales on it like every other software at some time.
Be aware tho, the last i'm aware of all you get is the download launcher. You won't have the actual game on it. The CD will install the Minecraft launcher then the launcher will download the game from their servers onto your computer.
Don't forget to have your e-mail and a user name you want to be known as and a password ready so the registration will go smooth and quick.

Minecraft is only available for download on its official website, minecraft.net. Mojang currently has no plans to release the game in stores on CD-ROM. Since your payment is for the premium account, which has to go through Mojang itself, it's much easier for them to digitally distribute the game like this, the account is the most important part, the game client itself is relatively small and more easily downloaded than distributed on CD.
