A black widow egg will take 2-3 weeks to hatch depending on the humidity and a few other surrounding circumstances. If the conditions are right the outer shell will soften and the babies will begin to become more active due to the lessening of the restriction. Its around this time that "most generally" babies will begin to fend for themselves and eat one another. After a little room is made in the sac then the babies will begin to plow their way out. One female widow will mate once giving off five separate sacs each containing around 200 babies. The exact number of survivors is somewhat unknown to me. Who wants to pick through 1000 babies (or so) with 8,000 legs and eyes to find out? Oh yah bit of advise make sure mommas not home.
