Well, technically, he isn't evil. Sure, he has murdered a gazillion goombas, koopa troopas, and others as well as (I believe) kill Bowser Jr. in Super Mario Galaxy and kill Bowser himself about a billion times... but, still. He isn't evil... Luigi is though...

Mario isn't necessarily evil, however it is easy to see him as such due to how he treats his brother (beyond poorly) and the events of "Donkey Kong Jr." and also "Mario vs. Donkey Kong". In the first game mentioned, Mario imprisoned an ape and Used a whip to command other animals to guard it, via attacking DK.Jr, Who was set on rescuing his dad. In the second game, Mario didn't do anything so outright horrible, but did act questionable. Of course, you can choose how to view Mario, as hero or villain.
