Otacon survives because the colonel managed to stop the air raid from happening, and Snake requests that somebody retrives Otacon from Shadow Moses Island.
In otacons ending, Otacon is in metal gears hangar when the bombing starts, as he stands in Meryl's place when driving the car in order to escape.
The first explanation is the way the game was meant to go, I know this as in Metal Gear Solid 2, Snake has a bandana, which was given to him by Meryl, which he couldn't of got in Otacons ending because Meryl was left in the Shadow Moses Compound. At the beginning of MGS2, snake has stealth, but could of beenn given it at the beginning of the tanker mission by otacon, who he is working with.
Otacon
Nothing really, they are a throwback to Metal Gear Solid, specifically the Sniper Wolf battle. However, if you attack them and call Otacon he will be furious.
That is major zero, its like your otacon to big boss major zero would be the one calling you all the time.
yes. use it every playthrough in Otacon's office. by the way, there are two more secret codes that you can use in that sequence.
Metal gear (MSX) came out in 1990 Metal Gear Solid (PSOne) came out 1994

There is one passcode in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots that can net you free Drebin Points. In Act 4 when you go to Otacon's office, enter 14893 when the prompt and keypad appear and you will be rewarded with 10,000 Drebin Points when the cutscene ends.

If you mean story wise then I believe it goes: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Metal Gear Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake Metal Gear Solid Metal Gear Solid 2 Metal Gear Solid 4 But I may be wrong, and that isn't counting either of the Portable Ops games.
metal gear solid1, metal gear solid 2 sons of liberty, metal gear solid 3 snake eater, and metal gear solid 4 guns of the patriots.
