Roach and Ghost died in Modern Warfare 2 because Sgt. Shepard was never on their side he was an enemy. So, once they did what he wanted he killed them.

It does not, it's just because the damage of the weapons has been improved, so that makes it easier to kill/easier to die. Plus there is no Juggernaught, so if you used that in Modern Warfare or World at War, then you might be too used to it being on.
